Alea rugs are handcrafted from seamless 100% Merino wool felt. Each rug is created as one continuous piece using traditional felting techniques.
Merino wool is naturally soft, resilient and breathable. It contains lanolin, which helps protect the fibres, making the rug durable, naturally dirt-resistant and easy to maintain.
Each Alea rug is handcrafted as one seamless piece, rather than being stitched together from separate sections.
Every design belongs to an original collection inspired by Kazakhstan’s native flora, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design.
Felt is one of the world’s oldest textile materials. Unlike woven rugs, it is created by interlocking natural wool fibres into a dense, seamless surface, resulting in exceptional durability, warmth and a distinctive tactile quality.
Every Alea rug is handcrafted in Kazakhstan by experienced felt artisans, preserving a centuries-old craft through contemporary design.
Each rug is made entirely by hand using traditional wet-felting techniques. Layers of Merino wool are carefully arranged, then rolled, pressed and shaped until they become one continuous, seamless textile.
The entire process takes several weeks and cannot be replicated by machine.
A standard Approx. 150 × 200 cm rug takes approximately three weeks to complete by hand.
Vacuum regularly using low suction.
For everyday cleaning, use mild soap and cold water to treat small stains.

Kazakhstan has one of the world’s oldest traditions of felt making, shaped by centuries of nomadic culture. Alea draws on this heritage, reinterpreting traditional craftsmanship through contemporary design inspired by the country’s landscapes and native flora.
Every Alea collection begins with a story.
Our first collection, Flora of Kazakhstan, celebrates native wild plants that quietly define the country’s landscapes—from endangered tulips to wild poppies and resilient steppe grasses. Each rug translates these botanical forms into contemporary, collectible objects for the home.
